The acquisition of Alloa Maltings in the summer
of 2002 increased the production capacity of Crisp Malting Group to
215,000 tonnes.
The Alloa plant is a Saladin box plant with the capability of producing
30,000 tonnes of a variety of malts for brewing and distilling.
The site is managed by Richard Lake, a long term Crisp Malting employee.
Richard joined the Company in 1975 and brings to Alloa the dedication
and skills learned at Great Ryburgh and, more recently, Portgordon.
Alloa is situated in the central belt of Scotland with excellent road
connections both North and
South and is well placed for the barley growing
regions of Perth and Kinross, Fife and the Lothians.
A program of upgrading and refurbishment is ongoing in keeping with
Crisp Malting Group's target of excellence at all the production sites.
A new bore hole for process water is being drilled at Alloa. This will
reduce water costs and a recently installed state of the art humidification
system will reduce usage.
